Several Students from Al-Ghazaly School, Jersey City were among the approximately 120,000 students worldwide to participate this year in the Math Olympiad Program. They participated in a series of FIVE MONTHLY CONTEST of 5 Problems each, from NOVEMBER to MARCH, and weekly practice sessions under the supervision and coaching of Sr. Sumayyah Hussain. She taught the children to solve unusual and difficult problems and to think creatively. Sr. Sumayyah had practice sessions with her team during lunch hours twice a week.

The students responded well and were recognized with certificates for their participation. TWO of the MATHLETES, Nahyan Munawar and Rand Musa from 6th grade won the HIGHEST INDIVIDUAL ACHIEVEMENT trophies with a score of 24 out of 25 points in Division E for grades 4-6.

* The GOLD Pin is awarded to those in at least the 98th percentile (Top 2%). At Al-Ghazaly School, Nahyan Munawar, Rand Musa, with a score of 24 out of 25 points and Ilsa Qadir with a score of 23 out of 25 points, was in the EXTRAORDINARY GROUP.

*The SILVER Pin is awarded to those in the 90th to 97th percentiles, including the following students: [Omar Elkhafif (21), Bilal Mazhar (21), Hooran Awan (20), Emir Hussain (20), Zahra Khadir (20), Minna Moustafa (20), Rania Barkaoui (19), Sophia Aleemuddin (18), and Kareem Hassan (18)].

*The EMBROIDED PATCH is awarded to those in the TOP 50% of all the participants nationwide, including the following students: [Karen Mabroukeh, Noor Abdelhamid, Perishay Ishaque, Omayma Jabaara, Habiba Khirie, Ganah Elghoul, Abdurrehman Mirza, Alina Sandhu, Adam Assina, Maryam Choudry, Malaak Alattaby, Nour Daghash, Jamaad Knight, and Zaina Shebita]. Most of our students fall under the first Top 20% of the students nationwide.

*The AL-GHAZALY SCHOOL, JERSEY CITY Team was named to the MOEMS HIGH ACHIEVEMENT LIST for its score of 212 points. A team must be in the 80th to 89th percentile Nationally to win this award.

Each year the MATH OLYMPIAD serves over 100,000 students on nearly 5000 teams nationally and about 50,000 students on hundreds of teams in more than 25 other countries. It has provided challenging, thought-provoking problems that stretch the abilities of students from 4th to 8th Grades.

Our students have responded to the challenge with eagerness and enthusiasm.
